Actiu, the leading Spanish company that designs and manufactures office furniture, has launched the TNK Flex chair — the latest version of the iconic TNK seat originally created by industrial design studio Alegre Design in 2006.
The first impression TNK Flex gives when you sit on it is of comfort and a capacity to adapt to every individual’s body shape, ensuring the experience is very pleasing. The piece is the result of the combined efforts of Actiu’s research and development team and Alegre Design, which have co-created a functional, directional office chair that intuitively anticipates the user’s needs, adapting itself to his or her body shape and movements, while adjusting the backrest and seat as if these were a second skin.
The highly ergomomic TNK Flex offers two new features which are set to revolutionise the development of Actiu’s office seating, namely support and haptic interaction with the user, haptic meaning the sense of touch — in particular relating to the perception and manipulation of objects — which is also closely linked to movement. It’s the seat that provides the support, according to Marcelo Alegre, a designer at Alegre Design: “The seat’s design uses a similar technology found in lorries — a suspended seat that feels weightless. The contact area with the user has air chambers in the foam in the seat which favours compression and decompression, allowing the seat to accommodate, absorb and adapt its shape to the specific needs of the user, creating a feeling of harmony and wellbeing.”
Alegre Design, which provides innovative, efficient technological solutions, has designed chairs for Actiu before, among them the Uka, Stay and TNK A500 seats. The last of these won the prestigious Red Dot Product Design Award, presented in Essen, Germany in 2012.
