Design studio Alegre Design has created Pbike, the first electronic security device for bikes that alerts contacts previously informed about it to serious falls and features a geolocation system in case the bike is stolen.
Pbike has been co-created by PlanetUs, a Spanish company that specialises in the development and manufacture of wearable geolocation devices. Its advanced technology stores the most detailed route-tracking so users don’t need to use other types of device and it can be synched with the athletic app Strava. It’s a device with full connectivity that includes different communication systems and a long-range antenna, which allows for communication even indoors.
Alegre Design created the exterior of the device and incorporated the electronic components inside it. The resulting design is discreet and miniaturised and comes in two formats — Pbike Hide, which conceals the design under the saddle and a high security, waterproof, ultra-durable fastening and PBike Light for use on roads or in cities and whose main additional feature is a LED light with four settings: a brake light, a fixed and brake light, a fixed light and a flashing light. Both devices come with a longer lasting battery which doesn’t need recharging for about two weeks as well as maximum efficiency, thanks to their wireless Bluetooth technology and Micro-USB charger. It’s not the first time the Spanish studio has invented ítems for bicycles — its bike-parking systems D-NA Square, Cesta and Sit Bike are good examples of this.
Alegre Design is an industrial design studio that sees design as a global concept concerned both with style and sustainability. Its latest, notable, more technological designs include its Weon glasses, whose frames incorporate an electronic device that interacts with smartphones and computers.
