Spanish brand GAN has just presented “GARDEN LAYERS” in Milan. This first outdoor adventure for an exclusive concept called GAN Spaces, has been created by designer Patricia Urquiola. The collection comprises rugs, mats, bolsters and cushions with multiple combinations for outdoor comfort.
For inspiration, Patricia Urquiola travelled to India, where she was captivated by the harmony and delicacy of Mughal architecture. Gardens, terraces and miniatures whirled in her restless mind to infuse this new collection which, she knew from the outset, needed an outdoor context. The oriental influence is apparent in the way the collection beckons you to lie back on rugs and mats, amidst soft bolsters and cushions. It seeps too into fringes, trim and geometric motifs. Available in three colour groups – terracotta, grey and blue – GARDEN LAYERS combines design with state-of-the-art materials and filling, including thread resistant to any kind of climate and dryfast foam for perfect outdoor performance.
Patricia Urquiola is one of Spain’s most renowned international designers. Born in Oviedo, she has been living and working in Milan for more than 25 years. She graduated from the Polytechnic University of Milan in 1989, was awarded designer of the year by magazines Wallpaper and Elle Deco, and designer of the decade 2000-2010 by German magazines H.O.M.E. and Häuser. She has received the Red Dot prize and Chicago Athenaeum Good Design Awards. Her work has appeared in solo exhibitions all over the world and in 2015 she was named Milan Expo Ambassador.
GAN is GANDIABLASCO’s brand, and was created in late 2008 to give the company’s textiles line an identity of its own. Since then, its rugs have acquired an international reputation and are available in the world’s major cities. GAN products combine design with craftsmanship, and promote local economic development and progress in the communities where it works.
