Vicent Berbegal, president and founder of the workspace and contract furniture brand Actiu, has just become European Entrepreneur of the Year 2017.The award, presented at the European Business Awards (EBA) ceremony in the Croatian city of Dubrovnik in May, promotes commercial excellence and business innovation.
Interiors from Spain sends congratulations to Vicent and all his team at Actiu. His success is a source of particular pride as he is the first Spaniard to have been given this coveted award.
The jury – made up of leading figures from the worlds of business and international politics – highlighted Vicent Berbegal’s skill in identifying and harnessing new and profitable growth opportunities over a career spanning almost fifty years. This year, a total of 33,000 companies from 34 European countries were in the running for the prizes. After three qualifying rounds lasting almost a year, that number was whittled down to 110 finalists of which just 13 received awards. The figures speak for themselves.
In his speech, Adrian Tripp, CEO of the European Business Awards, had this to say about the winners, “These businesses are the best in Europe They have shown innovation, integrity and financial success and are shining examples of the potential growth of European companies within a competitive global market. Together they are creating a better future for us all". Actiu is certainly a case in point. Commitment to design, constant reinvestment in technology, sustainable growth and respect for the environment are some of the key factors in the company’s business success.
But as Vicent Berbegal put it, “this award would not have been possible without the whole team that works every day at Actiu. Without their commitment, support, talent and enthusiasm this recognition would not have happened. It is undoubtedly a very difficult award to obtain as you are competing with all types of businesses from 34 countries. For us there is an extra bonus in promoting and spreading Brand Spain and in achieving European recognition of our hard work as a country”.
Awards also went to two other Spanish companies: Leroy Merlín Spain, received the Customer Focus prize, while Galicia’s Marine Instruments won Growth Strategy of the Year, giving Brand Spain a major boost both in Europe and worldwide.
