Creator Verónica Mar has dazzled again with two striking lighting sculptures Gingko and Coral Reef Ibiza.
Gingko is a spectacular chandelier created from ginkgo biloba, one of the world's oldest trees. In Chinese culture, the ginkgo is a symbol of the world’s duality: male and female, heaven and earth, the seen and unseen, the sun and the moon, yin and yang. Her lamp seeks to reflect the symbolism of a tree that is sacred in oriental culture. Made from cast brass, its leaves and branches have been welded together meticulously and delicately one at a time by the same artisans who make sculptures for artists Anish Kapoor and Marc Quinn. The Ginkgo chandelier was exhibited at leading art and design gallery Rossana Orlandi, during trade show Euroluce 2017 in Milan. In May this year, Verónica Mar also created Coral Reef Ibiza, a unique five-metre ambient lighting sculpture for the wall made from treated brass for the reception area of Hotel Barceló in Portinatx in Ibiza. It is inspired by coral reefs, so plentiful on the Ibizan coast. The lamp sculpture seeks to show how this abundance can regenerate if we use light and awareness to take care of the spectacular landscape and beautiful beaches of the island of Ibiza.
Verónica Mar designs sculptures with a purpose, created on Mies Van der Rohe’s premise “less is more” in organic lines with an essential natural beauty designed to move the observer. All her furniture and ceramics are works of art handmade by sculptors and master artisans. She has also designed products for well-known companies like Porcelanosa, the Belgian brand Tribu, Italian studio Lab23 and creates interior design projects for private clients. Currently, her most artistic creations are sculptures representing the duality embodied by Ginkgo, with ethereal essential lines where the material seems almost non-existent despite the monumental proportions of some her pieces.
