In London, on 3 October, the prestigious award ceremony, Restaurant & Bar Design Awards 2019 was held to celebrate this globally recognised competition dedicated to the design of food and beverage spaces. Among the winners was the Spanish design studio, Proyecto Singular, for the eatery New York Burger (Madrid, Spain) for the category of Surface Interiors.
The winning design by the Proyecto Singular studio was for the latest New York Burger premises in La Moraleja Green shopping centre. By imagining the space as if it were a concentration of the brand’s core essence, the studio came up with a concept rooted in artisanal ideas, incorporating industrial elements – as well as more rustic ones – to create a truly urban mood. The three main protagonists are: the colours, an array of greys and russets; the textured wall cladding; and an abundance of natural fibres. Its industrial look, which is American in influence, has been used to achieve an eclectically sophisticated atmosphere, and is particularly noticeable in the furniture and light fixtures. An artisanal feel was obtained thanks to textures and natural elements. All of this comes together beautifully and results in something completely different from the usual hamburger joint.
The Restaurant & Bar Design Awards celebrated their eleventh edition this year, and the awards ceremony was attended by more than 500 of the best designers in the world and the United Kingdom. The judges on the panel included some of the most internationally influential figures in the fields of design, hospitality, gastronomy and lifestyle, and over 1,000 candidates from the UK and 70 other countries entered this year. This award has also been received in the past by other Spanish studios, such as Equipo Creativo, which won the award in 2016 for the Blue Wave Bar in Barcelona, and by Estudio Nómada in 2012 for the refurbishment of the La Cantina in Santiago de Compostela (La Coruña).
Proyecto Singular is a studio whose work centres on creating architectural concepts. Attention to detail in their designs goes hand in hand with maximum functionality, and every project is developed following very precise and in-depth conceptual ideas which span spheres ranging from gastronomy to architecture. To create memorable spaces that are convincing – as well as interesting – for users, it is essential to remain faithful to these notions, have an open mind, and know how to share new ideas both with the members of the team and with clients. This continuous flow of creativity gives this studio the flexibility to adapt to all kinds of projects and on any scale.
