At the end of June and due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the prestigious Red Dot Awards 2020, (organized annually by the Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen in Essen, Germany) announced this year's winners via social media. Celebrated for 65 years, they recognize excellence in design and creativity, assessing products for their innovation, formal quality, functionality and durability over time.
This year, 15 Spanish companies and 12 Spanish design studios received awards for their innovative product designs. In furniture and accessories, the IBIZA and LOVE chairs by Eugeni Quitllet for Vondom, the NODUM modular office furniture system created by Ovicuo Design BCN for JG Group and the EOLO sunshade from Ezpeleta. Furthermore, the Spanish studio Stone Designs was also recognized for the GEMINI blackboard, designed for the Swedish company Glimakra.
Five Spanish companies were awarded prizes in the field of lighting: Simón won four awards for the POINT 56 and DROP projectors and the MOOD and HOLE wall lights, Vondom won another award for the GATSBY table lamp designed by Ramón Esteve, the Bover company won with their SKYBELL lighting system created by the Manel Molina, Urbidermis-Santa&Cole won with the TUMBLER lamp and Arkoslight was recognized for the MINIMAL TRACK lighting system designed by Rubén Saldaña.
In the same product category: the innovative design creations of Nacar Design Studio won three awards for the new EX3 coffee machine concept for the company Crem, the HP DesignJet XL 3600 MFP printer for HP Spain and the UAD milling head for the Grupo Nicolás Correa. The design agency Lúcid Design also won the same number of awards for the LAB and SAKURA Q22 cutlery created for Comas & Partners-Culter and the integrated vertical garden aeration and drainage system designed for Urban Espora. Lastly, Distform/Mychef was recognized for its MYCHEF baking oven series, alongside Kendu for its FLOWBOX dynamic display.
Finally, four Spanish design studios were recognized for their creations for international companies: Alos Design with two awards for the ELBOW outdoor light and the MAG tee tumbler, Bambú Studio for the FLEXO luminaire, Carlos Jiménez Design for the LANDS trays and Align Office for the SEVENTWENTY AWAKE 1.0. bike helmet.
