A few months ago, the "Westfield Mall of the Netherlands" opened, the largest shopping mall in theNetherlands, located between the cities of The Hague and Leiden. This spectacular complex covers an area of 117,000 m2 and houses 280 stores and spaces to shop, eat, drink, relax, and have fun.
The firm responsible for remodeling the entire complex, MVSA Architect, was faced with the challenge of seamlessly linking the existing old shopping center with the newly constructed blocks. And the decorative element that gives coherence and personality to this union are the curved Kriskadecor panels that design the ceiling of the Dining Plaza. A total of 30 curved pieces in shiny brown and satin gold make it a unique space that activates the senses of visitors. In fact, the Spanish firm's aluminum chains mimic the movement of air flowing in all directions, giving warmth and embracing visitors. According to Thijs van de Straat of MVSA Architects, "We were able to create a space where you could sit back, relax, and feel comfortable and happy, because the curtains create that kind of atmosphere."
Another of the strong points of Kriskadecor's pieces is that "they join the high and low areas of the ceiling, making the design much more consistent." Chain panels wrap around the different restaurant spaces, emphasizing them and giving them definition. And, by using different lighting colors, the ambience can be adjusted to any time of the year, giving it a very versatile atmosphere.
For this project, Kriskadecor manufactured 30 panels with a total surface area of 3020 m2, an amount equivalent to 235,600 meters of chain, or 235 km that could cover the entire territory of the Netherlandsfrom end to end. And to make the 12,251,200 links, more than 1,000 km of aluminum wire were needed, approximately the distance between the cities of The Hague and Milan.
