Throughout the year, our “Interiors from Spain” website has featured news and reports across various sections highlighting companies and designers who distinguish their brands through the integration of sustainability in their products and designs.
Furniture company Sellex, honored with Spain’s National Design Award in 2011, has unveiled the 100/100 Range. This collection features a selection of its generally available products, all crafted from 100% recycled and recyclable materials. Meanwhile, the lighting specialists at B.lux are championing sustainability through the #berespectful initiative. This commitment ensures that their products are made from recycled and recyclable materials, are long-lasting to contribute to a circular economy, rely on 100% renewable energy consumption, minimize waste generation, and prioritize local suppliers, among other values. Similarly, Roca has recently introduced the NU faucet collection. Designed by Inma Bermúdez, recipient of Spain’s National Design Awards in 2022, these faucets incorporate the innovative “Cold Start System” application. This feature not only reduces water flow with each use but also prevents unnecessary CO2 emissions.
Designer Alvaro Catalán de Ocón, the creative force behind Pets Lamps, is an example of merging social and environmental responsibility. This commitment, along with Ondarreta’s focus on sustainable materials, has earned them Spain’s National Design Award this year. Outdoor furniture company iSiMAR, which furnished the sustainable design hotel Eolia in Ecuador—a 4-star establishment crafted entirely from sustainable materials. And three Spanish companies, Ole Lighting, Luxcambra, and Gan, have recently been honored with the “Archiproducts Sustainability Awards 2023” for their contributions to sustainable design. These instances underscore the steadfast dedication of Spanish brands and designers to building a more sustainable planet.
Finally, on November 8, we organized together with Metropolis magazine an Evening of Sustainability from Spain at the HKS venue in Dallas (USA).
