The KUROSHIO OSAKA 2025 joint venture, comprising Enorme Studio, Smart & Green Design and Néstor Montenegro, has been selected to create the architectural design and comprehensive exhibition concept for the Spanish Pavilion at Expo Osaka 2025. This innovative and sustainable project reflects Spain’s commitment to tackling the major challenges of the future.
The Spain Pavilion, managed by Acción Cultural Española (AC/E) will be located on a 3500 sq. m plot, and will be built using natural and sustainable materials with minimal environmental impact, incorporating reuse and recycling processes. Inspired by “The Kuroshio Current”, which was a sailing secret of the Spanish for centuries, the design symbolizes the bond of cultural and commercial enrichment between continents.
The pavilion aims to create a holistic experience that connects Spain and Japan through the themes of ocean and sun. The architectural concept fuses art, design, gastronomy, and outreach. Japanese media have praised the captivating design of the Spanish pavilion, considering it a standout icon of the upcoming World’s Fair.
Following the success of Expo Dubai 2020, Osaka will host the next World Expo in 2025. Themed “Designing Future Society for Our Lives”, the event will run from April 13 to October 13, 2025, attracting over 150 participating countries, international organizations, and an estimated 28.2 million visitors, including 3.5 million from abroad.
