“Substance” exhibition at the Spain Embassy in Tokyo, Japan.
Spanish design is once again on display in Japan thanks to Interiors from Spain and nine companies from the furniture, lighting, home textiles, bathroom, and ceramic floor and wall tile sectors.
From December 10 to 12, the Spanish Embassy in Tokyo will host an exhibition featuring Spanish products, including talks followed by networking sessions that give participating companies the opportunity to interact and establish contacts with the Japanese attendees.
The exhibition is curated and designed by the Japanese architecture studio Sioalittle Design Inc. Its CEO, Mr. Yasuhiro Shiojima, has taken part in the design of FC Barcelona’s new Camp Nou stadium. He led the interior design team in Barcelona for two years, bringing to the project an in-depth knowledge of Spanish design and architecture.
The theme proposed by Sioalittle Design for this year’s exhibition is based on the motto “Substance – The power of the essential,” which seeks to highlight the unique charm of each piece on display.
For the studio, this concept reflects the following ideas: Spain and Japan come from very different cultural worlds, yet their approaches to design share much in common. Both value the texture of materials, a sensitivity to making use of “empty space” in a composition, and the pursuit of beauty hidden in simplicity.
The concept of “Substance,” in the sense of reaching the essence of things, sums up this idea. Whether it is calm or boldness, color or form, philosophy or humor, everything arises from small decisions made with care. This minimalist yet subtle approach generates a quiet strength that transforms spaces, brings objects to life, and touches our hearts.
As the Japanese studio points out, “We want to create real moments and connections where Spanish and Japanese design meet and engage in dialogue. We are convinced that this is a moment when Spanish and Japanese designs are connecting more than ever.”
The exhibition is supported by the Economic and Commercial Office of Spain in Japan. Stay tuned to the events by following our Instagram, the Instagram of our Economic and Commercial Office of Spain in Japan and the website spainisin.
