The impressive pendant lamps from a by arturo alvarez brighten hotels, restaurants, offices, events and other facilities around the world.
We present the latest projects carried out in one of the Spanish firm’s top markets: the USA, where their luminaires captivate the country’s architecture and interior design studios.
The state of Texas is the site of two installations that display their designer pieces: the offices of vacation apartment and cottage rental company VRBO, in Austin, and the Calpine building in the city of Houston.
The VRBO offices in Austin shine with the design and color of the Caos suspension luminaire. This handcrafted lamp with recycled cellulose cord has an organic and natural form inspired by the primitive state of the cosmos. Its form and colors seduced RCH Studios, which selected a composition of 15 lamps in a variety of colors to light several common areas in this space.
Several miles to the east, in the city of Houston, the elegant and delicate Fluo lamps hang in the lobby of the Calpine building. This installation, designed by the Abel Design Group, is comprised of a composition of over 30 pieces distributed throughout the space. The Fluo suspension lamp is created based on shades made of painted galvanized steel mesh that are joined gracefully around a single point of light. It is a lightweight form that produces the illusion of sheer fabric, like a semitransparent tulle that reveals and hides at the same time, playing with the intuition of the viewer. This designer piece won a Good Design Award in 2009.
This same Fluo lamp, in its largest size, also lights the Fairfield County Library in the state of Virginia. The lamp, made up of 16 pieces, creates a large composition that fills this space, designed by the Quinn Evans Architects and Tappé Associates studios, with light and elegance.
The a by arturo alvarez company was created over 25 years ago in a small workshop in the north of Spain, surrounded by nature, where elaborate lamp designs were handcrafted. In 2018, this workshop added a new facility in “O Milladoiro”, La Coruña, designed to improve the creative process for the designer pieces that are exported around the world.
