Sellex waiting benches can be found in large transit facilities around the world. International architecture and design studio hold their design and durability in high regard and recommend them for these kinds of projects. And two of these projects can be found in the American continents: the Lima metro (Peru) and the Macdonald-Cartier Airport in Ottawa (Canada).
One of the most iconic recent projects in the Peruvian capital was the launch of Line 2 of the Lima Metro, which began on December 21, 2023, with the opening of the first five stations. It's the first subway rail system in the Peruvian capital, designed to enhance the efficiency of city travel and significantly reduce commute times.
One of the project team's main concerns was the durability of the furniture. Since we're in a facility that thousands of passengers pass through every day, it was important that the material be durable without sacrificing the aesthetics of a good design. That’s why the VACANTE bench by Sellex was chosen, a timeless and unique design made of stainless steel that guarantees the durability of the seat.
Thus, 88 4-seater VACANTE 00 benches were installed, each fixed to the floor at both ends. Designed by Enric Miralles, this versatile and durable bench can be found in train stations like Coina in Portugal and in other metro lines like the one in Brussels, Belgium.
Another major facility featuring Sellex Benches is the Macdonald-Cartier Airport in Ottawa, Canada This airport recently expanded its facilities to better serve the passengers who pass through its terminal on a daily basis. This project included not only the construction of a new terminal building, but also a new parking structure and extensions to the taxiway.
Some waiting areas were equipped with one of the firm's most iconic designs, the AERO Waiting Bench, in its special Fixed to Tier version. 23 units were installed inside the complex with floor attachment. The AERO is Sellex’s most “well-traveled” bench and the one that has equipped the most international airports: Geneva Airport (Switzerland), Greensboro Airport in North Carolina (USA), Arlanda Airport in Stockholm (Sweden), and Copenhagen Airport (Denmark) are just a few of the long list.
