SerraydelaRocha is a duo founded by Ferran Serra Solá and Oscar Vera de la Rocha, born in 1975 and 1976 respectively. Both are industrial designers who studied at Barcelona’s industrial design school Elisava. In 2005, they joined forces and opened their own studio.
SerraydelaRocha are extremely hands-on: they oversee and manage their projects and orders from the moment their design is conceptualised, then developed right up until its launch. Services they offer include industrial design, consultancy, management and creative direction. They collaborate with companies with one-off orders or act, in a freelance capacity, as a company’s design department. They believe in design that communicates its purpose, that is thrilling but which is also useful and practical.
They have a varied, enviable portfolio of clients, notably Roca Baño, various lighting companies such as Estiluz, Blauet and Metalarte and some furniture firms such as Calma, Concepta and Arazzo, since outdoor furniture is one of its specialities. They also collaborate with more industry or technology-orientated companies like Toyota Motor Corporation, Telesco or Itsa. They’ve received various national and international prizes and their products have been exhibited in internationally prestigious design fairs.
They are currently immersed in a very interesting project – the relaunch of the legendary high-fi brand Roselson, for which they are designing its entire range of new products. The project is a challenging one in that it aims to bring together two different markets – electronics and aesthetics – in a single product range. This isn’t the only recent project the dynamic duo have undertaken; others include a new outdoor lamp called Frida produced for Metalarte and O Dot, a new family of lights made of 100 per cent recyclable plastic for Estiluz.
And it won’t be long before we also become acquainted with their new collections of outdoor furniture designed for the company Calma, one of the duo’s most loyal clients and Serra y de la Rocha´s first street furniture project. Its star piece is a fountain made of recycled and recyclable materials.
