Vondom was founded in 2010 by José Albiñana, a passionate designer. After his long experience in a family business dedicated to the manufacture of plastic household items, he wanted to do something different, something groundbreaking in the world of design. This is why 12 years ago he founded Vondom, a brand that started out by making designer planters, and later expanded its range to include avant-garde furniture and lighting.
The company recently moved its headquarters to Beneixida, 40 km from the city of Valencia, where all their products are manufactured. The facilities are three times larger than the previous premises, with a total area of 65,000 m2. This achievement has been made possible by the application of a solid business strategy in every aspect of the company - design, production, quality control, marketing, and promotion - and above all, a firm commitment to R+D+i, and the internationalization of designer pieces.
A warm, sophisticated Mediterranean lifestyle.
Vondom inspires a warm, sophisticated Mediterranean lifestyle. As marketing director Michelle Poon says, “We create pieces with soul, that transform the simplest thing into something unique with a personality of its own, a new dimension.”
World leaders in designer products made from polyethylene.
The company works mainly with 3 materials: polyethylene, polypropylene, and polyurethane. Polyethylene produced using the rotational molding technique is used to manufacture different product lines, such as planters and indoor and outdoor furniture. Michelle Poon points out that, “We’re currently the global firm with the broadest catalog of polyethylene designer products. For contract projects that require an original product at a competitive price, we use the gas-assisted polypropylene injection technique, reinforced with fiberglass. The result is functional products that are attractive, original and easy to maintain."
One of the ways the company adds value is through the ability to adapt to fashion trends and the increasingly demanding needs of its customers. To this end, after a long period of analysis and research, the cold injection technique using flexible polyurethane reinforced from within by a metal structure was incorporated. Using this process, collections suitable for both outdoor and indoor use are produced, with upholsteries in a variety of different colors and textures to create a more sophisticated and elegant outdoor experience.
Vondom Revolution: Innovation for a more sustainable future
“Vondom Revolution” embodies the brand's philosophy as well as its commitment to innovation and a more sustainable future, based on the manufacture of its collections from recycled polypropylene materials, in addition to "green packaging."
This commitment to sustainability can be seen in the new factory in Beneixida. This year, as part of Vondom's efforts to meet the company's energy needs in a totally sustainable manner, 990 kW of photovoltaic panels were installed, producing 1,429,998 kWh per year, resulting in a reduction of approximately 908,895 kg of CO2 emissions, equivalent to Vondom planting approximately 60,000 trees.
“We are Vondom, We are Design”
With this tag line, the company emphasizes that "design is everything to Vondom." This commitment to design is reflected in the close collaboration with iconic international designers such as Eero Aarnio, Ross Lovegrove, Marcel Wanders, Fabio Novembre, Karim Rashid and Ora Ïto, and Spanish designers like A-cero, Teresa Sapey, Ramón Esteve and Eugeni Quitllet, who bring their particular style of creativity to the brand.
Best sellers and new collections
Among Vondom's Best Sellers are the AFRICA collection designed by Eugeni Quitllet, STONES by Stefano Giovannoni, SURF by Karim Rashid, and FAZ by Ramón Esteve. Today the firm's most significant collection is SUAVE, designed by Marcel Wanders. It was here that a new production method was introduced, injected polyurethane, launching the first collection in the company's history that brings together new materials, textures, and fabrics to create a more sophisticated and elegant outdoor experience.
2022 has seen the launch of KIMONO, a polycarbonate chair designed by Ramón Esteve, and the VOXEL lounger created by Karim Rashid, which is perfect for contract projects, thanks to an original design and an affordable price.
Changes in product marketing due to digitization.
The company understands that digitization has an increasingly important role to play in the marketing of its products. This is why although the firm does not currently sell directly online, designer pieces are present in various product libraries such as Archiproducts, Architonic or Archiexpo.
International awards
Recent international awards include the 3 Red Dot awards received in 2020, for the LOVE chair and the IBIZA armchair, designs by Eugeni Quitllet, and the GATSBY lamp by Ramón Esteve. They have also won other awards such as "Green Good Design", "Best of Year", "NYC x Design", "WallPaper" and "German Design". For Vondom: "Excellence is not a singular act, but a habit.”
