A versatile design suited to a variety of public spaces.
One of Spain’s most creative design outfits, Valencia-based Alegreindustrial Studio, which was founded in 2002, unveiled its new UKA chair at the most recent Feria Hábitat Valencia trade fair. It will be manufactured by Actiu, the Spanish maker of furniture for offices and public spaces.
UKA is a monoblock chair (cast as a single piece) that has a gently curvilinear, cutting-edge shape. Thanks to its lightweight design and to the fact it can be easily stored, it’s suitable for a huge variety of public spaces, from hospitals to universities. The chair has a metal frame, adaptable to a multitude of uses, while its perforated backrest offers optimum lumbar support.
Alegreindustrial Studio’s creations are never bland. They’re always the result of careful thought that includes an assessment of every stage of a manufacturing process, which in turn leads to technical innovations and the creation of everyday objects with surprising qualities.
Specialising in making furniture for workplaces and public spaces, Actiu is a leading Spanish company in its sector. It exports over 60 per cent of its goods to over 65 countries. Throughout its 40 years in business, it has contributed to major projects all over the world. The most recent one saw the company win a contract to furnish the offices and customer care centres of Transport for London, the organisation in charge of the city’s public transport system. Moreover, in order to raise its profile further in the UK, the company recently opened a showroom in London.
