A desk inspired by the sea.
Spanish company Treku has just launched Belharra, a desk designed by Jean Louis Iratzoki. It’s inspired by Europe’s largest waves which form on the Basque coast in the autumn. These take their name from the rocky, underwater spur called Belharra Perdun that causes them to form. Some very specific climatic conditions make the waves crash against the spur, resulting in the waves leaping to a height of 10 to 15m.
The Belharra desk is made of wood and takes its name from this huge wave. Part of its top curves, another downwards to provide two practical storage compartments – an upper and lower one. The piece comes in two versions – with or without a lower compartment – and four sizes. The desk’s top is laminated and can be customised as it comes in several colours.
The desk received a prize on May 28 in the compeition, Architecture and Design Production, awarded by the French Archi Design Club.
Treku was founded in 1947 in Zarautz in Guipúzcoa. It specialises in the design and manufacture of contemporary furniture. The company originally took its name after its founder, the cabinetmaker Jesús Aldabaldetrecu, and, in 1970, it was renamed Muebles Treku. Today, the company is committed to providing a specialist and bespoke service, to sustainability and to the high quality of its products and services, which are distributed in Europe and the US.
