A new design from its More than Objects collection.
Birds is one of the latest collections to have been unveiled this year by Barcelona-based industrial design outfit Mermelada Estudio – and one that we spotted, to our delight, at the Milan Furniture Fair.
The collection comprises stunning kitchen knives with a high-quality, handcrafted finish whose forms are inspired by birds. These range from a colibrí (a type of hummingbird) to a goose. Each knife has a wooden handle, stainless steel blade and screws with a graphite finish.
The trio behind Mermelada Estudio are Juan Miguel Juárez, Laura Blasco and Alex Estévez. Their projects are characterised by a mix of a strong character and simplicity, and strive to have an identity that distinguishes them from other brands.
This company’s short but dynamic history to date is starting to bear fruit: its portfolio of products includes its Equis collection of outdoor furniture for Oi Side, its decorative lighting line Maya for Almerich and, most recently, a successful collaboration with ultra-famous Danish home textiles company Kvadrat, for which it designed a highly original kids’ playhouse.
We integrate architecture, branding, and product design into one coherent, cross-cutting vision
