Chairs that fuse Nordic style with Mediterranean warmth.
At the recent Milan Furniture Fair, Capdell unveiled its Concord collection of chairs, armchairs, stools and footrests created by the Swedish design studio Claesson Koivisto Rune. This fuses Nordic style, and its love of natural wood, with a Mediterranean warmth reflected in the vibrant shades of the pieces’ upholstery.
Concord’s main feature is its composition of horizontal bands, starting from top to bottom: feet, frame, seat, low backrest, tall backrest and headrest, each representing a visually differentiated layer. The Swedish designers have taken inspiration from the beautiful, stratified composition of the Earth’s atmosphere that can sometimes be clearly seen at dusk.
The collection includes a large number of permutations built up from a basic frame made of one, two or three horizontal pieces of curved plywood. These come in a variety of sizes and finishes, for example, with upholstery, wood as well as a mix of styles. There are various styles of base available – for residential or comercial use – that include one made of wood, metal legs and a swivel base.
Marten Claesson, Eero Koivisto and Ola Rune co-founded the design outfit Claesson Koivisto Rune in Stockholm in 1995 as an architects practice which quickly morphed into a multidisciplinary studio.
Capdell is well-known for its seating in a contemporary style. For the company, it’s important that its furniture, in addition to its style, satisfactorily fulfills its function, passes all tests related to strength and ergonomics and has a look that’s aesthetically pleasing at the time it was produced. To achieve this, it collaborates regularly with such designers as Carlos Tíscar, Edeestudio, Fiorenzo Dorigo and Gabriel Teixidó, among others.
