A fun, symbolic plant-holder shaped like a peacock.
Vondom, the Spanish outdoor furniture and homeware company, has launched one of its most fun and original collections to date, Peacock, among other new ideas. Peacock is a line of colourful plant-holders created by legendary Finnish desiger Eero Aarnio, who is famous for many iconic, ultra-pop designs made of plastic (including his spherical Ball chair of 1963).
Peacock – the first collaboration ever between Aarnio and Vondom – is a fun, symbolic design. The inspiration for it, according to its creator, are his early memories of peacocks which loomed large in his childhood in Helsinki, despite originally hailing from a country miles away from Finland. Aarnio used to visit a local zoo on an island, where the peacocks there really stood out. They fascinated yet also scared him because, when their long tails fanned out, they suddenly became gigantic birds. This highly personal memory sparked the creation of this new plant-holder laden with symbolism for Eero. Naturally named Peacock, it allows him to relive his encounters with these striking creatures from his childhood.
Vondom is a great admirer of Aarnio’s iconic, timeless designs. The company considers him a true maestro in his use of plastics. Created in conjunction with him, this unique plantholder captures this memory – which can now be shared and enjoyed by others.
The Peacock plant-holders aside, this year Vondom has launched two other collections:Frame, a new, lightweight, comfortable outdoor furniture collection designed by Ramón Esteve and Sloo, an avant-garde collection of chairs and tables created by Karim Rashid.
