A new seat for relaxing on in public spaces, designed for Swedish firm Nola.
Spanish product and interior design outfit Emiliana Design Studio recently unveiled its Sunday bench, its latest creation for Swedish manufacturer Nola.
The Sunday seat invites people to get together and hang out in public spaces. Emiliana Design Studio conceived it as a platform to relax and hang out on rather than as a conventional bench. This versatile seating, with an honest, direct design, allows people to sit on it in an informal manner, on either side of it and at different heights. It can be used in many ways, depending on different situations — for sitting, waiting, relaxing or for informal meetings. Thanks to its multifunctional character, the bench can be arranged by architects and landscape architects in a variety of configurations to create flexible, dynamic environments.
Emiliana Design Studio was co-founded in Barcelona in 1996 by Ana Mir and Emili Padrós with the aim of developing projects together and independently. These range from the interior of a private jet and product and furniture design to curating and designing exhibitions and teaching. The studio is known for offering clients a fresh approach with each new project – thanks to its experimentation with materials and the way it encourages its products’ users to interact with them – while always creating pieces that are functional and well-designed from a technical perspective. Its products have travelled the world as part of exhibitions in New York, Milan, Paris, Tokyo and Sydney, among other cities, while some belong to the collections of France’s Fonds National d’Art Contemporain and the Indianopolis Museum of Art in the US. The studio has worked with such firms as Kettal, Nani Marquina, Marset, Tres Tintas and Joquer, as well as with Italian company Valsecchi1918, among other brands.
