Located in the hotel Melía Barcelona Sarrià, it's furnished with pieces from the companies Sancal and Vondom.
It's cheese please for Barcelonans who are queueing up to indulge their taste buds at the Poncelet Cheese Bar in the Hotel Meliá Sarriá. And this gastronomic emporium is also admired for its striking contemporary interior design, which is the work of design studio Estudi{H}ac.
Poncelet occupies 400m2 on the hotel's ground floor and the design is open plan, with different areas delineated by the use of particular flooring materials. The bar areas have cream hydraulic tiles featuring Poncelet branding, while the main dining area has a luxurious green marble floor.
Estudi{H}ac used high quality natural materials including oak, copper and stone, which are softened by colourful and tactile fabrics used to upholster chairs and banquettes.
It chose furniture from Spanish brands such as Sancal and Vondom: products used include the Tea stool and chair and the Casta chair by Estudi{H}ac for Sancal; the Talo armchair by Sebastian Kerkner for Sancal; and the Vases plant pots by Estudi{H}ac for Vondom.
As you arrive you're welcomed in a reception space designed to feel like a library, with wood panelling, soft chairs and a bespoke wool rug. You can read about the huge array of cheeses on offer before going through to your table or to the oak-fronted bar for drinks. The bar top is made from Krion, Porcelanosa's own solid surface material.
Poncelet started life as a specialist cheese shop in Madrid in 2004 and it went on to become the only Spanish centre for the specialized treatment and storage of cheese. In 2011 it opened its first Cheese Bar in Madrid, and with Barcelona under is belt the company is looking to expand into other cities.
