If you've visited Barcelona city centre you'll no doubt have strolled along the elegant Avenida Diagonal and the four kilometre long Calle Balmes, which connects the upper end of the city with the commercial centre.
And if you've ever lamented a lack of benches so you can rest your weary legs a while, take heart, because Santa & Cole has provided street furniture as part of a major regeneration project to reduce traffic and make the streets more pedestrian-friendly.
Santa & Cole has also helped resolve a lack of trees along the street, which has resulted in poorer air quality. Its timeless Tram cast iron planters, designed in the '90s by Jaume Artigues and Miguel Roig, have been installed along the roadside to allow for the cultivation of plants, trees and shrubs. The planters also improve safety by clearly marking the end of the pavement and acting as a barrier to prevent people stepping into the road.
The recent redevelopment project by municipal architects Carlos Casamore, Marta Gabás and Anna Ribas has seen the widening of the footpaths so the area is more geared to pedestrians. And again, providing public seating has been a big part of the project.
Santa & Cole have supplied the NeoRomántico Liviano benches, designed by Miguel Mila, in 1.75m and 3m lengths and they've been installed along the street to encourage people to sit and chat. The benches have armrests and are adaptated from Mila's earlier NeoRomantico bench. The Liviano model can be made from wood and metal or in aluminium.
