Spanish company Arlex has just unveiled its Matrioska storage range, designed by Estudio Ribaudí .
This playful, original collection of storage units can be transformed into anything you like — a chest of drawers, shelving unit, sideboard, bedside table… It’s a flexible, protean idea that, thanks to its non-orthogonal lines, can be converted into a multitude of incredible pieces. Watching the Matrioska YouTube video will give free rein to your imagination.
Arlex was founded in 1963, and, ever since, has made high quality domestic furniture. Its commitment to innovation and good design has resulted in the company exporting over 10 per cent of its goods. Many of its pieces are produced in collaboration with freelance designers. This year, for example, Matrioska aside, it’s launched the Turia sideboards, designed by La Mamba and inspired by the elegance, simplicity and functionality of 1950s design. Last year, it unveiled the Nara sideboard and clothes valet Easel by Odosdesign and the Posit bed and Essen collection of storage units, both designed by Josep Turell.
Estudio Ribaudí was founded in 1966 by industrial designer Jordi Ribaudí, and specialises in product design, lighting and interior design. The studio is made up of a team of designers and interior designers who bring together their creativity, materials and technology to dream up objects and interiors with a strong identity. The studio has designed pieces for such well-known homeware brands as Estiluz, Leds-c4, Lamp, Faro, Salvi and Indecasa, among others. On the interiors front, it has created schemes for such renowned fashion labels as Sita Murt and Munich. What’s more, Estudio Ribaudí is a promoter of Rec.0 Experimental Stores, a project that helps to restore industrial buildings in Barcelona’s Rec neighbourhood by installing pop-up shops in them.
