The library of the prestigious London School of Economics and Political Science has recently been given a fresh look with furniture and office solutions by Spanish company Forma 5. LSE, whose campus includes a number of buildings in the WC2 area of central London, was founded in 1895 and is one of the world’s top social sciences universities.
British architecture studio PLB were selected to refurbish and relaunch the prestigious Lionel Robbins Library building and chose the M10 office programme designed by Mario Ruiz for Spain's Forma 5 to furnish it. The furniture collection enabled the British studio to incorporate more organic shapes than the traditional linear solutions usually found in libraries and deep-plan commercial buildings. On the lower ground floor, the library is set within an area with a lot of vertical space and is accessed via an impressive sweeping staircase. The snakelike table layout of the M10 series optimises this space and brings dynamism and vitality to the more than 130 students who can study here. Clever use of colour also provides a vibrant, light and fresh space in the heart of the university.
Spanish designer Mario Ruiz began his career in 1995 when he opened his own studio. Since then, he has designed furniture, lighting, office and products for more than 120 companies in the USA, France, Italy, Australia, Sweden, Canada, Netherlands, Spain and Portugal. His work has received numerous international accolades including Best of Neocon, IF Design Award, Wallpaper* and Red Dot, and in 2016 he was given Spain’s prestigious National Design Award by King Felipe VI.
Forma 5 is a leading Spanish maker of office furniture and seating. Its commitment to innovation, design and the search for more comfortable, efficient office products have taken its office solutions to more than 6,000 office projects and public spaces in countries like the UK, UAE, France, Australia, Spain, Ireland, Portugal and Greece.
