Young talents of Spanish design triumph in our country. Awards and exhibitions fill their posters with names of future designers with projects that are very different from each other, original and aiming to make the day to day of our society easier. Below, we take a look at some of the exhibitors that we can see at Fresh Product and at the winners of the ADI Awards.
Fresh Product (from 12 June to 5 August, 2018 at the Design Centre at Matadero, Madrid) has had the participation of another autonomous community for the first time: Extremadura. The most interesting part of this exhibition is the mix of already established designers and young talents that even present their final projects for their degree. DIMAD (Madrid Designers Association) is in charge of organising this event every year and, together with a panel, selects the best industrial design and product designed, modified or produced during the last year in Madrid. The exhibition is divided into several sections: designers, companies, in process, students and special.
Among the pieces of the student section at Fresh Product, Carlota Rodríguez opts for a sustainable solution getting rid of objects with a collection that disappears when the user pours water on it. Juan Carlos Martínez and his KRK Armchairs, the Margoo table by Raúl Cortés González and the F table by Yurena Rivero Sánchez also stand out.
From the company section, we have the Valyria table by Eusebio Bellón and the APICIVS crockery by Terracota Mérida, a reinterpretation of traditional Roman crockery. In process stands out for the creations by Ana Carbonell and her Homey wheelchair; the multifunctional side table Momo by Clara Hernández Widner; the animal figures ‘Nimales’ by Miguel Hernández Cañadas; and the Tixi lamp by Singular Design
.
As for the section of already established designers, we highlight the Own Carpet by Paula Sanz Heras for Now Carpets; the Alhambra Collection by Álvaro Catalán de Ocón; a set of flatware utensils by ParedesPino; La Plentitud del Vacío by Los Diez; the Lily chairs by Dsignio for Beltà; and the singular clothes stand Lucky Loop by Belén Moneo (MoneoBrockStudio)
On the other hand, the ADI awards (parallel call to the Delta Awards also organised by ADI-FAD which is led by young designers) recognise the work carried out in final projects approved between 2016 and the current call.
The trophy was designed by the winner of the latest edition of the 2016 ADI Awards, Roc Miranda, and an independent panel selected the 13 projects, among which several trends stand out: femininity and projects that improve society.
The Gold ADI Award was for Minial, a menstrual cup by Mireia Mesalles López. As it is made of ABS and silicone and thanks to its simplicity, it can be cleaned outside of the home and sterilised in less than 15 minutes. Melit by Adrià Margall Planella received the Silver Award. It is a kit for starting beekeeping in an urban setting. It is made up of a modular hive with which you can obtain totally natural honey. Marta Torrentó i Serra’s design Without was awarded the Bronze ADI Award. The project allows different textile pieces to be connected without having to sew, without needing seams and without adding other materials. Lastly, the ADI Special Mention Award went to AUX! by Inés Antón Losada. It is an auxiliary flotation system that comes with instructions for child refugees. The project ensures that the child continues to float if he faints, it prevents him from slipping and it is flexible to adapt to different sizes. Plus, it is made from materials that can be easily found like motorbike or bicycle air chambers.
Lastly, we will also be awaiting Salón Nude 2018 since a professional panel has already selected the 12 students, designers and design studios that will participate together with 9 schools and universities in the same field. With more than a hundred projects and ideas, it will hold its 16th edition in Valencia from 12 to 18 September.
