Ideas from the Spanish design studio Alegre Design are a hit in Japan. Two of their latest creations have been designed for companies there.
At the ADF event in Paris late last year, the studio presented their first design for medical sector, Eurus, a dental chair created for the Japanese company Takara Belmont, world leader in dental devices, with which the studio worked closely over the course of two years.
The piece is inspired by the Greek god of the east wind after whom this chair is named, and its design features gentle curves and flowing lines. Alegre Design spent two years working closely with the Japanese production team to create this dental work station that combines European creative vision with high Japanese quality standards. The result is a product that offers supreme comfort and safety while adapting to the new requirements of dental clinics in terms of design, efficiency and ergonomics. The broad experience gained by Alegre Design in the development of office furniture was of great use in the creation of this work station which provides enhanced patient comfort and active ergonomics for the practitioner, with curves and distances measured with millimetric precision in order to improve posture and reduce fatigue. Likewise, special emphasis has been given to improving lighting and facilitating the hygiene and cleanliness of the space.
In recent years, Japan has become the second largest market for Alegre Design, after Spain. In fact, the fencing to be used in the triathlon event at next year’s Tokyo Olympic Games were designed by the studio for the company Katzden Architect. The studio also recently created the Pablo wheel stops for the same company. The philosophy behind them is simple but effective: making parking both easy and stylish with a marker that defines and delimits the parking area for each vehicle. The innovative side of this product comes from its design and potential for customisation.
Alegre Design is a Spanish studio specialising in industrial design. For them, designing a product involves much more than style; it means contributing a concept, defining new uses and creating experiences tailored to future needs. They turn products into tools to bring about new experiences. The studio has received a large number of international awards for their designs, the latest being a Good Design Award, from the Chicago Athenaeum International Architecture and Design Museum for the office chair christened the HipChair, designed for the Chinese company Sunon, which also won an A’ Design Award.
