This year’s edition of the Habitat Valencia fair, held from 17 to 20 September, is even more dynamic and remains the leading international event for the furniture and design sector in Spain. This fact – together with the choice of Valencia as the World Design Capital 2022 – decisively positions this Spanish city as a showcase for design in the coming years.
Initial information received indicates that over 500 Spanish and international companies, brands and firms took part. This is 21% higher than the previous year; in addition, the number of visitors from the furniture, lighting and decoration sectors exceeded 33,000, representing a growth of more than 25% in comparison with the 2018 edition. As the director of the salon, Daniel Marco, commented, ‘Valencia’s great furniture and design fair is back.’
The 6 pavilions – covering a 65,000 square metre exhibition area – showcased the latest ideas and collections by renowned Spanish brands of designer furniture, upholstery, lighting, and high-end furniture, as well as presenting new brands.
Hand in hand with the Habitat Valencia fair activities, a number of other events were held at this fair dedicated to design, as were events in other locations.
Highlights of the fair included a retrospective of Ramón Esteve’s work that featured emblematic pieces by this Spanish architect; the interesting Ágora Nude forums on design, contract and interior design in which Spanish designers, companies and professionals from the world of home décor and design participated; and the Nude Salon, in which twelve studios and seven design schools presented their design pieces. Talks offered at the stands of the ANIEME association and by the firm Actiu rounded off the extensive programme of the event’s complementary activities.
Away from the fair, special events held were: cocktail parties at the new Vondom y Sancal factories; the Revolution event by the Vondom brand at the Bombas Gens art centre; the presentation of the Das Haus 2020 project by the Mut Design studio which will be exhibited at the IMM 2020 fair in Cologne; and, last but not least, Feria de Valencia invited the international press to a cocktail and speech about the 2022 Valencia World Design Capital nomination held on the terrace of the Marqués House Hotel.
