Prestigious design furniture editor BD Barcelona Design fits out the most important cricket stadium in the world: "Lord's Cricket Ground.” This field, better known as Lord's, after its founder Thomas Lord, is located in the City of Westminster in London and has a capacity for 30,000 spectators.
At the heart of this "cathedral of cricket" is the exclusive Victorian pavilion, access to which is for “Members Only”. Tradition dictates that members must watch the games seated on shared benches and not individual seats, along the three bleachers of the pavilion. In addition, benches should be run end to end, to allow spectators to squeeze in on busy days, or spread out when there is enough space.
The facility was in need of a renovation of the bleachers and seats, as the old benches were made of wooden slats that were very uncomfortable for full-day games as well as being very costly to maintain. London-based architectural firm Bridges Associates was asked to modernize it with new bleachers and ergonomic seating. The studio chose the bench designed by Konstantin Grcic for BD Barcelona, to which adjustments were made to the dimensions of the structure and slats, and which included an all-weather upholstery. But above all, it offered a contemporary design that was a perfect fit for a place surrounded by history and tradition.
With this truly unique project, the new "contract" division was presented to society. BD Barcelona has always conceived its designs and developed its projects for offices, hotels, restaurants and public spaces with the needs of the architect and interior designer in mind. Since its inception, the company has participated in the furnishing of such important facilities as the Hudson in New York, Clift in San Francisco, Delano in Miami or St Martins Lane in London. And this latest project is an excellent example of adapting its products to the needs of both prescriber and end customer.
BD Barcelona Design, was created in 1972, by a group of young architects and designers from Barcelona with the intention of producing and commercializing furniture and other objects for projects, no holds barred and with total creative freedom. The defining and differentiating feature of the brand is its dual personality: part of its product offering is produced in special or limited editions under the BD Art Editions label. This includes Dalí's designs, which they produce as a world exclusive, and Gaudi's furniture and other historical pieces. And this is completed with original design pieces in which contemporary artists and designers such as Mendini and Jaime Hayón, among others provide a helping hand. "We cultivate beauty by going for broke on the idea of doing things properly and having well made products, combining art with functionality to offer unique pieces with a strong personality.". The firm is currently present in more than 60 countries through the best design stores, in art galleries and collaborating with the most avant-garde interior design and architecture studios.
