Valencia World Design Capital 2022 will carry out during the year 2022 in the city of Valencia and abroad an intense and varied program of activities. The presentation ceremony, held on November 16 and chaired by the president of the Generalitat Valenciana, Ximo Puig; the mayor of Valencia, Joan Ribó and the president of the Valencian Parliament and accompanied by the heads of the organization and members of the World Design Organization was attended by 1,200 attendees from institutions, promoting companies and the ecosystem of Valencian and Spanish design.
For the organization "Valencia World Design Capital 2022" is a milestone in the history of the city of Valencia and in the international projection of Spanish design, leading the promotion of design as a tool for the transversal transformation of society and a lever for growth. And to that end, it plans to hold more than 100 activities that hopes will capture the attention of more than two million people and attract more than 200,000 foreign visitors to the city by 2022.
The nerve center of the city will be the Plaza del Ajuntament, "the whole city will breathe design in every corner, with workshops, exhibitions, conferences, and meetings. Design will take to the streets thanks to festivals such as the World Design Street Festival, but the Plaza del Ajuntament will be the heart of the capital thanks to a Pavilion where you can enjoy Valencian design and design that will come from outside to inspire us." The organization comments.
The program of Valencia World Design Capital for 2022 includes interventions, congresses and professional meetings, publications and own productions and exhibitions, which will cover all design disciplines around six strategic axes: health and wellness, design education, economy and innovation, legacy and identity, environmental sustainability and equity, inclusion and diversity.
The seven "Signature Events" promoted together with the World Design Organization are expected to attract 130,000 visitors in 2022 and more than 100 top international speakers. They will be concentrated in the second half of the year, as a culmination of the capital, and to instill the importance and recognition of design as a key tool for improving the economic, social, cultural and environmental development of the territories.
ICEX supported the visit of 16 journalists from Germany, France, Italy, the United Kingdom, and Russia from prestigious media such as AD, Elle Decoration, Interior Design, Interni, Dezeen, Wallpaper, Architektur & Wohnen and Ideat, which together with those supported by Visit Valencia reached more than fifty.
