The most internationalized Spanish brands of designer rugs unveil the latest collections they have launched this year.
The Gan brand, which is part of the Gandía Blasco Group presented this year's collections: "Plastic Rivers," "Goz," "Reversible," "Crochet," "Happy," and "Echo Grey."
The PLASTIC RIVER collection was created by Spanish designer Álvaro Catalán de Ocón and consists of four rugs that use craftsmanship to respond to the designer's and the company's concern to raise awareness and combat one of the great global problems of the industrial era: plastic waste. Each rug is a representation of one of the most polluted and polluting rivers on the planet: the Ganges, Indus, Yangtze, and Niger. The pieces are made by hand with the "hand-tufted2" technique, using recycled plastic fibers (100% recycled PET).
The GOZ collection, designed by Japanese architectural master Kemgo Kuma is composed of three rugs, Tsuchi, Kiri and Ame (mist, rain, and earth in Japanese). The series extols the genuine beauty of everything handmade and puts the focus on the coexistence of materials in nature.
The REVERSIBLE Collection, created by Belgian designer Charlotte Lancelot, is noteworthy for its freshness and warmth. A new and complex "hand-loom" technique is used in these rugs, which enables yarns of different thicknesses and materials to be combined, weaving both finishes at the same time: 100% virgin wool on one side and linen on the other. While wool offers extra texture and warmth, linen "breathes" and feels cool underfoot when temperatures rise.
Gan's offer is completed with the collections CROCHET designed by Clara Von Zweigbergk, HAPPY created by Sandra Figuerola and ECHO GREY designed by Samuel Wilkinson.
In addition, the firm Nani Marquina presented the collections: "Re-Rug," "Troupe," "Ceras," "Tiles," and "Tones."
The RE-RUG collection, created by Nani Marquina, was created from the desire to take advantage of the wool leftovers generated by the brand's suppliers. This initiative has entailed a long research process, the challenge of recovering these wools to create a new yarn suitable for weaving. Each Re-Rug uses 1kg/m2 of reprocessed wool and therefore contributes directly to the reduction of waste and Co2 emissions. The singular character of this circular collection lies in the intention to preserve the irregularity and tonal richness of the mountains of wool. A challenge that has led the brand to experiment with new processes by which they have managed to maintain the multicolored aspect in the yarn. The series is produced using the "hand loomed dhurrie" technique, and the result is rugs with 50% virgin wool and 50% reused wool.
TROUPE is a rug designed by Jaime Hayón and handmade using the Hand-tufted technique, which allows the designer's work to be literally transferred to the piece, as if it were a blank canvas. Crazy, dreamlike, and with a sense of humor like a party, this rug transports us to the artist's imaginary universe. It talks about friends, children, free spirit, and spontaneity. The material chosen for this collection is wool from New Zealand sheep. This fiber is high quality and flexible, 100% biodegradable, easy-to-care-for and ages well.
The CERAS collection, created by Nani Marquina, arises from the exhaustive study of color through the manual process of tracing with waxes. It consists of four sizes of rugs available in four color combinations, with handmade designs using the hand loomed kilim technique. The rugs are notable for their durability, strength, and lightness.
Nani Marquina's offer is completed with the collections "Tiles" by Nani Marquina and "Tones," created by Clàudia Valsells.
The company Naturtex launched the "Siswool" and "Amalfi" collections. At the "Hábitat Valencia fair," it presented two new collections that they developed with Martín Azua and Estudio Beristaín.
The AMALFI collection is inspired by nature. Despite its soft surface, the rug is made of recycled polyester. Due to its innovative material, the Amalfi collection is a durable and practical outdoor rug, but can also be used indoors. And SISWOOL is a rug, designed by PerezOchando studio and made of 100% natural wood fiber.
Finally, the company NOW Carpets presented the RADICAL collection, created by the Italian studio Modo Architettura. A rugs collection that is made up of three different designs and two types of manufacturing systems.
