Spanish design publisher Omelette Editions presented new pieces of furniture at Valencia’s Feria Hábitat, with the collaboration of designers Isaac Piñeiro, Mut Design, Omayra Maymó and the Altherr Désile Park studio.
Isaac Piñeiro designed the ALEX armchair, which is an evolution of the Alex collection previously developed for the publisher, and consists of two different seating models. The armchair still features the contained volumes and marked lines that define the hallmark silhouette, combining materials and getting things just right, without major additions.
Mut Design created the BOLET armchair. This small-sized chair that fits into any corner was inspired by the world of fungi and evokes the coffee cup shape of mushrooms. Its simplicity is only offset by a single elegant touch: the elongated button in the center, which anchors the design both functionally and visually in a kind of contemporary quilting.
The PORTA Armchair, designed by Omayra Maymó, was inspired by the entrance portico at the Chandigarh Assembly Palace, designed by Swiss architect Le Corbusier in 1951 in the Indian Punjab. This high-backed armchair is an abstraction of the brutalism and duality present in the portico, which combines the soft and adaptable character of a curved key element with the rigorous and rectilinear character of the parallel surfaces that support it. This comfortable chair is made in such a way that the legs and armrests can be detached to optimize transport and storage.
Finally, the Altherr Désile Park studio designed two pieces of furniture: the NUA chair, which maintains the fluidity and light "sculptural" features of the armchair bearing the same name, and comes in different natural wood shades, with two stained-wood options: dark blue and dark red. And designed to go with the seating in the collection is the NUA side table.
Contemporary furniture design publisher Omelette Editions was founded in 2010 by the La Mamba design studio, with the aim of launching its own designs and later incorporating the creations of other design studios that share the same work philosophy. Their projects include the furnishing of the Facebook offices in England, Microsoft's offices in Israel, several hotels in the Meliá chain, Cupra's showroom in Italy, and recently the Mohamed VI Polytechnic University in Morocco.
