Penadés, led by designer Jorge Penadés, has designed the interior design of Camper's first footwear store in Japan. This new space is located in one of Tokyo’s most iconic and instantly recognizable buildings: “Shin-Maronouchi”, in the Chiyoda district. As in previous Camper stores, this project maintains the aesthetic and conceptual throughline the studio has been developing for the brand since 2022.
The project’s design and development rise to the challenge of creating a system capable of replicating Camper stores on a global scale, while using locally sourced materials that eliminate transportation and reduce environmental impact, clear proof of a firm commitment to sustainability. Drawing inspiration from the company’s identity and Mediterranean roots, the key material used to give the space its character was clay tiles, highly sustainable and affordable, which, when fused with a monochromatic, bold setting, create a one-of-a-kind environment.
The meticulous attention to detail and precision so characteristic of Japan elevates the value of these ceramic pieces, which not only evoke Camper’s Mallorcan origins by recreating the archipelago inside the store, but also serve as organizing and display elements, a signature feature of Camper stores.
With this opening, Jorge Penadés is chalking up his ninth collaboration with Camper in a new city, following his projects in Paris (3 stores), Hong Kong, Bangkok (2 stores), Mallorca, and Malaga.
Jorge Penadés is recognized for his experimental approach and his ongoing research into new uses and materials within a constructed environment. Deeply rooted in Mediterranean culture, his studio creates objects, spaces, and strategies that respond to ecological, social, and cultural challenges, often reinventing materials and techniques to push the boundaries of contemporary design.
