Innovation, new uses, versatile products and a commitment to green design – this year, once again, Spanish design reinvents itself without turning its back on its roots. We present the latest products of 2010.

Last April we visited the Milan Furniture Fair and Light+Building Frankfurt, scouting for the latest trends in Spanish design. A key one was the return to all things natural – an appreciation of the warmth of wood, artesanal touches and neutral tones.

To coincide with the Light & Building Fair of 2010, Lighting from Spain has mounted an exhibition of Spanish lighting which has won the most prestigious prizes in the Noughties. It's a retrospective which demonstrates the evolution in the past decade of the most innovative Spanish lighting designs from companies such as Arturo Alvarez, DAB, Luzifer Lamps, Bover, Evaluz, Modiss and Vibia.

Sustainability is increasingly taken on board in interior design and design as integral to both disciplines. Spain is no exception. Indeed there are many interesting examples of Spanish companies which are wholeheartedly committed to environmental issues - as our selection here proves...

Rocío Moreno, Lizzo, Gancedo, Güell Lamadrid and Ybarra y Serret, among other firms, unveiled their latest fabric collections – for 2010 – at the most recent, Paris design fair Maison & Objet: namely classical fabrics which evoke the past, more contemporary-looking silks, unusual relief patterns, metallics and – hottest trend of all – linens.Here is our lowdown of examples from these – and other – collections…
