A silicone lamp with organic forms and textures.
The Spanish lighting company Arturo Álvarez, which is headed up by its eponymous founder and driving force, has wowed us once again with its new design, Tati, one of its latest ideas.
It was Arturo Álvarez himself who developed these lights for the brand using its signature material – silicone mesh. The collection comprises pendant lights, wall sconces and table lamps in various sizes and colours.
Tati has a rounded form and woven, creased texture that creates a skin resembling an organic-looking shell. The pieces can be washed with water and soap, are very tactile and can create large, statement-making, sculptural shapes. Along with the company’s Muu, Li and Kite collections, Tati underlines the company’s commitment to exploring new concepts in sustainability and energy-efficiency.
Arturo Álvarez always places human needs at the centre of the development of each new design, and these lamps – which are designed to trigger emotions and promote a sense of wellbeing – certainly do this. The firm’s unconventional designs, use of innovative materials and hand-crafted manufacturing are the keys to its huge success. Proof of this comes with the many awards it has won in recognition of its work, such as the Good Design award given by the Chicago Atheneaum: Museum of Architecture and Design for its Gea and Flua lights (in 2008 and 2009), the 2010 Red Dot prize for its Guau lamp, while its Coral collection recently won the HD Product Design Competition’s award for excellence at Las Vegas.
