Outdoor lighting, stool and table rolled into one.
Jordi Vilardell has designed Meridiano, a versatile collection of outdoor lights for Spanish lighting company Vibia. His creative flair has seen him dream up a multifunctional, hybrid object which can be used as a light, piece of furniture – a stool or table – a purely decorative object or a combination of all three.
Meridiano is a funky, colourful collection designed to illuminate – and provide a decorative feature on – summer nights and an unexpected spectacle in whatever setting it’s in, thanks to the striking contrast produced by the light and shadows cast by the lamp’s cage-like frame. Vilardell’s idea was to create an outdoor lamp that generates a light that’s not dazzling and is highly decorative, owing to its dramatic play of light and shadow. The light suits any environment because of its versatility – and creates a magical, fairytale atmosphere in any outdoor space.
This is not Vilardell’s first collaboration with Vibia. Notable among other pieces he’s designed for the company are his outdoor light Halley, co-created with designer Meritxell Vidal, Puck wall light and Match pendant light.
Vibia is one of Spain’s most internationally renowned lighting companies. Aside from the matchless quality of its designs, one of the keys to its success is its commitment to working with such well-known designers as Arik Levy, Ramón Esteve, Lievore Altherr Molina, Martín Azúa, Pete Sans, Diego Fortunato and CuldeSac when developing its products. Some of Vibia’s latest designs went down a storm at the Milan Furniture Fair recently.
