The prestigious organisation, German Design Awards , has just announced its award-winners of 2016. These include various pieces made by Spanish companies and designers, among them the Frames and Badminton armchairs, Aia pouffe, Gazelle table, Piknik lamp, Bowl and Fluent collections, Lock door wedge, Invisible ceiling light and Rams deckchair.
Frames, created by Spanish designer Jaime Hayón for Spanish company Expormim, was awarded an Excellent Product Design prize. This rattan chair, which mixes hand-crafting and a traditional style with a simple yet sophisticated aesthetic, is fast becoming a contemporary classic, as this award proves. Badminton, designed by Itemdesignworks for Spanish company Actiu, also won an award in this category. Conceived as an iconic piece of office furniture, it stands out for its sophistication, reflected in its innovative design featuring an enveloping seat which is adaptable to different functions — from chatting and reading to using electronic devices — but not so relaxing as to hinder concentration.
Other Spanish winners in the Excellent Product Design category are the Aia pouffe with rounded corners, manufactured by Ondarreta, the portable, rechargeable lamp Piknik designed by Belén Moratalla, Cristina Planells and Inelén Ortín for LZF Lamps, Claesson Koivisto Rune’s chic, lightweight Gazelle table for Capdell, Arik Levy’s elegant, sophisticated Bowl and Fluent collections for bathroom firm Inbani and the functional Lock wedge by Hector Diego for Reunión Industrial — a practical, versatile, modern spin on the classic door wedge, shaped like a keyhole.
Other award-winning pieces by Spanish designers include the Invisible light dreamt up by Francesc Vilaró for Spanish company Leds-C4 and Rams deckchair by Victor Carrasco for Italian firm Paola Lenti.
