LLADRÓ
Lladró, world-renowned Spanish maker of porcelain figurines, recently opened a new shop in the shopping centre, El Palacio de Hierro (The Iron Palace), in the Polanco area of Mexico City.
With the arrival of Lladró, The Palace of Palaces, as the luxurious centre is nicknamed, has a new space for fans of Spain’s most famous artistic porcelain brand. This joins its other retail outlets in Mexico, where it’s had a presence for many decades. The shop is a unique, unusual space co-created with high-profile Spanish designer Jaime Hayón, who has been collaborating with the company for 10 years.
The image of Lladró’s new boutiques reflects the creative vision of the Lladró family, which has always been the driving force behind its evolution. According to Rosa Lladró, daughter of Juan Lladró, one of the two brothers who co-founded the firm and a consultant to the brand, ‘the store’s interior design creates a space where people can meet up whenever they fancy it, stop to take in exquisite details and simply be entranced’. The space’s aesthetic is organic and modern, dominated by white surfaces and curvy contours which provide a neutral backdrop that’s ideal for displaying any style, form or colour of figurine and for throwing each piece’s unique qualities into sharp relief.
Lladró, one of Spain’s most internationally renowned brands, continues to invest in opening shops in the most prestigious shopping districts of the world’s major cities, chiefly New York, Los Angeles, London, Moscow, Tokyo, Shanghai, Singapore, Madrid and Barcelona, among others. These new shops represent part of the expansion which the brand has been consolidating since 2012 when it opened a store on 500 Madison Avenue and, a year later, another in Dubai. Other new stores in North, Central and South America can be found in Guatemala, Panama, Saint Thomas, Miami and Beverly Hills. The brand also has shops in the Middle East and Far East — in Tehran, Osaka and Hong Kong.
Lladró kickstarted its international expansion in the 1970s, and currently has a presence in over 120 countries where it sells its delicate porcelain figures, all of which are handmade in its workshops, such that each piece is unique.
