Spanish design studio Mut Design recently returned from the IMM Cologne fair where they presented their project “A la fresca!” (“Step out into the fresh air!”) at "Das Haus 2020”. Their innovative open design installation, which lets in the Mediterranean light and reflects the Spanish lifestyle and their vision for a future lived outdoors and without borders, caused a real media storm among the international reporters from the design world in attendance at the event.
Interiors from Spain congratulates them on this major success and shares their observations on this extraordinary experience with our readers.
With the “A la fresca” project, you were looking to communicate the Mediterranean outdoor lifestyle. Do you think you succeeded in this goal?
Absolutely. 100%. People understood the concept perfectly. Visitors totally grasped the idea of a design which seeks to integrate the indoors and the outdoors, inspiring products which function equally well inside or out and disrupting the boundaries established between the two worlds to offer something which is both possible and groundbreaking. In our own way, using a very Mediterranean vocabulary, we have managed to create a new language which is fairly universal, and in doing so we indeed managed to communicate what we wanted. We surpassed our goals.
What was the response like from professionals, the press and the German and international audiences who visited you?
Excellent on all fronts. We left with the feeling which most of our visitors communicated to us, of it being an inspiring space. They felt that everything was very poetic and evocative, the ceramic objects, the color pallet, the fireplace...which is exactly what we were going for. The feedback was incredibly positive, there was a lot of press coverage of the project. Lots of businesses and professionals became aware of our work, and in just a few days we've gained thousands of followers on social media We're very satisfied with the visibility and the comments we've received.
What company did you work with for the project?
We worked with quite a few companies, and each and every one of them was incredible. Antonio Lupi, Diabla, Expormim, ex-t, GAN, Harmony, La Cividina, LZF, Preciosa Lighting, Pulpo Products and Sancal. Das Haus gave us the chance to work with old acquaintances, but it also connected us with new clients with whom we were delighted to create products for the first time, and we're sure it won't be the last.
What has this project meant for you? Would you say that this project has put Mut Design on the international stage more than ever?
Without a doubt. Das Haus definitely put us on the map when it comes to international design. Before, our name came up often enough, but now it's definitely going to be coming up more. In fact, Das Haus was created as a platform to promote designers who have had a certain amount of success, but who need a little extra push. That push definitely worked for us. We feel that Das Haus is going to open a lot of doors for us and we're excited to see what lies behind them.
Have you had any new projects come to you thanks to this experience at DAS HAUS 2020?
Das Haus helped us meet lots of people, make a lot of new contacts, promote ourselves, etc...but right now we can't talk about any new projects. We trust that they will come, sooner or later, but we also don't want to talk about anything before it's set in stone. We'll reveal everything in good time.
