Recognition for Spanish Design in the United States

Several Spanish proposals from the lighting, outdoor furniture, natural stone, and carpet sectors have been awarded in 2020 for their design and innovation in the MetropolisLikes NYCxDESIGN, HD, HiP, and NYCxDESIGN awards, which are given by some of the most prestigious specialized publications in the United States to the year’s best products.

On October 26, the winners of the MetropolisLikes NYCxDESIGN 2020 Awards were announced. These awards are given by Metropolis Magazine, where interior designers and architects choose the most creative solutions for home and public spaces. Among the 32 projects awarded in this edition are 3 Spanish projects: the Dekton® Avant-Garde series, by the company Cosentino, an ultra-compact surface inspired by natural stone with innovative technical properties such as resistance to UV rays, scratches, stains, and heat shock; the CIRC illuminated decorative mirror, by the firm Estiluz and designed by Nahtrang Studio, with a glass screen and integrated adjustable LED; and the ARENA outdoor furniture collection, by iSiMAR, inspired by the Mediterranean landscape and nature, and committed to sustainability by using 100% recycled and recyclable materials.

The HD Awards, organized annually by the Hospitality Design (HD) publication and attended by over 1,000 international projects and products, also included a Spanish company, Vibia, which won an award in the “Lighting” category for its innovative TUBE pendant lamp system, designed by Ichiro Iwasaki.

For their part, the HiP awards of Interior Design magazine, which in 2020 celebrated its seventh edition, recognized in their “Workplace: Conference Tables” section the STATUS model of Spanish company Andreu World, a design with a markedly technological character, characterized by its extensive flexibility and adaptability.

In addition to these awards are the NYCxDESIGN 2020 awards—previously recognized by Interior Design and sponsored by ICFF—given to the company GAN and its ZOE carpet, a contemporary proposal with an artisanal soul by Daria Zinovatnaya in the “Residential Flooring” category; and the ALFI lamp by Estiluz, a multiple suspension composition that allows countless patterns to be created, designed by Estudi{H}ac, in the “Architectural Lighting” section.
