COVID-19 continues to change the way we present the latest in designs "Made in Spain" to the world. This year, Spanish companies are once again arriving in Dubai, this time at the digital version of the Dubai Downtown Design Reimagined fair, which will take place this year from November 9th to 14th. This fair is the top design habitat event for the entire Middle East region and is part of the Dubai Design Week.
Last year, seven Spanish companies in the area of furniture, lighting, carpet and innovative surfaces for kitchens and bathrooms participated at the fair with the “Life Experts” exhibition. This was a space organized by ICEX, under the Interiors from Spain brand, curated by design studio Stone Designs. Visiting professionals liked it very much because of its original staging: four rotating wooden modules, enabling the public to move between the different products on display, and encouraging them to "play" by spinning the modules.
ICEX are taking part again this year, but virtually and less conspicuously, with the Spanish companies A by Arturo Alvarez, BD Barcelona, Lladró, MYO, Nanimarquina, Naturtex and RS Barcelona. Spanish participation is completed by the companies Cosentino, Sancal, Kettal, Bivaq, Coordonné, Porcelanosa and Vergés. When you access the “digital” fair, you will find catalogs, images, press kits and additional information on this year’s new products from these nine companies.
For the Spanish sector of habitat products, Dubai is the top destination for Spanish exports in these sectors in Asia. And specifically most of these products exported by Spanish companies go to the “contract” channel. That’s why last October 20th ICEX organized a webinar for these companies to show them "How to access the prescription in United Arab Emirates (UAE)", to let them know what the opinion-shapers in the UAE consider when making a decision on recommendations in habitat products.
At this seminar, moderated by the content manager at the online design magazine“Love That Design”, three speakers participated from major architecture and interior design studios based in Dubai, specializing in hotel and corporate projects and other types of facilities: . Parallel to the webinar, a virtual trade mission for the habitat sector was organized on October 21st and 22nd, with five agendas prepared by the Spanish Economic and Trade Office in Dubai for five Spanish companies.
In addition, it should be noted that Spain will have a Spanish Pavilion at the Dubai 2020 Universal Exposition, which, due to the pandemic, has been postponed to next year: from October 1, 2021, to March 31, 2022.
