The prestigious British magazine Wallpaper* has awarded three Spanish furniture companies in the most recent edition of its Design Awards, which annually honors the best international representatives of the design industry: Sancal, Expormim, and Vondom.
Void Matters, Sancal’s first purely conceptual furniture collection, designed by Note Studio, was recognized in the “Best Meditations” category for its use of reflection on empty space and its great creative potential, embodied in the emphatic volumes of the Core and Remnant seats, the sculptural Vestige table, and the Dividuals line of poufs. The collection also includes limited-edition ceramic pieces, handmade by artisan potters.
The “Best Outdoor Entertaining” section, which includes the best proposals for outdoor spaces, also has two Spanish firms among its winners. Expormim, for its Armadillo armchair, created by MUT Design, with a shell-shaped rattan backrest. A tribute to the classic Moon chair, it delves into the infinite possibilities of nature as a source of inspiration. And the firm Vondom, for the Vineyard design by Ramón Esteve, a piece born from the concept of shelter, reminiscent of traditional architecture with its gable roof; comprising an aluminum structure and a double reclining mattress, this daybed is conceived as a setting conducive to rest and relaxation.
In addition, the “Hyundai Museum of Kids' Books & Art (MOKA)” project in Seoul, which the Spanish designer Jaime Hayón has participated in, was awarded in the “Best Playground” category for having created the fantastic playground, sculpture garden, and library of this magical museum for children in South Korea.
