The use of bicycles promotes healthy and non-polluting lifestyles, envisaged in the sustainable development goals of the 2030 Agenda signed in 2015 by all UN Member States. Not only is it good for people's mobility and beneficial for the environment, but it has contributed during the pandemic to physical distancing as an alternative to public transport and to the daily physical activity needed after confinement.
For bicycles to circulate across our cities, they need safe and functional parking racks. And all this mixed with the creativity of Spanish designers, results in the "Superlock" and “D-NA" bike racks.
"Superlock" is a design created by Alex Fernández Camps for the Spanish company Durbanis. It adapts to multiple bicycle formats, both conventional and electric, and offers the best security guarantees, as it can be attached by three points. Manufactured from recycled polyethylene and internally reinforced with UHPC concrete, the product is vandal-resistant and highly resistant to both impact and adverse weather conditions.
It is not the first time that Alex Fernández Camps collaborates with Durbanis, a brand of design urban and outdoor furniture that seeks to improve the quality of public spaces. In 2017, he designed the "Loclock" bike rack, a model in a smaller format than Superlock, which won the prestigious international IF Design Award in 2018: in the Eurobike Gold Winner category and was a finalist in the DesignEuropa Award.
The Spanish studio Alegre Design designed the D-NA line of bike racks for the Japanese firm Katzden Architec. The geometric design of these products is inspired by the animal kingdom and is compatible with all bicycle wheel sizes. Four designs have been created with animal silhouettes: bear, butterfly, bird and elephant - which are visible both horizontally and vertically, and linked to Japanese graphic and visual culture.
As Marcelo Alegre, founder of Alegre Design explains, "D-NA brings a new aesthetic, which extends the reach of this type of products to more users and spaces. We paid particular attention to efficiency and sustainability, with parts that are easy to manufacture and install, even on vertical surfaces." In the designer's opinion, because of their symbolism and aesthetics, these products are visually integrated in public spaces designed for children and adolescents, "to whom they convey a sense of order, of everything in its place, allowing them to recognize themselves in their own environment."
D-NA is the latest contribution of the innovative Spanish design studio to the Japanese brand’s bike racks catalog, for which they previously created the "Llatina" and "Cesta" bike racks, which can be found in public spaces in cities such as Tokyo, which will soon celebrate the Olympic Games.
