Spanish editors have just launched their new seasonal fabric collections with textures, unique materials, and designs inspired by elements of nature, artistic trends, and whimsical places.
Wild nature
Nature has always been a source of inspiration for fabric brands: Gancedo brings us “Desert,” its new collection inspired by one of nature’s most harmonious landscapes. In it, we find all the warm colors and textures of the meandering sand grooves transformed into prints with straight stripes, zigzags, or rounded shapes for a relaxed style in the four models of fabrics in the collection.
Alhambra presents “Etna,” an upholstery collection inspired by the Mediterranean’s largest active volcano. Mount Etna’s characteristic landscape and relief have been captured exceptionally in seven fabrics thanks to a deliberate use of textures, colors, patterns, and materials. And the names of certain grains that grew in the Mediterranean are used to bring life to the curtains and drapes in the “Siembra” collection.
Güell LaMadrid (Grupo LaMadrid), under its brand Les Créations de La Maison, takes us to the coves, islands, and beaches of the French Riviera with its “Cote d'Azur” collection. While steeped in vivid blue, it offers a large palette of colors and natural Mediterranean prints that make up three complementary fabrics.
Artistic trends
The artistic currents of the past are never forgotten and will always be the foundation of what we are today. Therefore, capturing these deep-rooted movements in drape, curtain, and upholstery fabrics has resulted in unique prints that bring the past’s identity into the present.
Güell LaMadrid (LaMadrid Group) launches several collections inspired by different artistic creations from the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Among them is the “Art&Crafts” series formed by three printed fabrics that capture the colorful, characteristic, groundbreaking, and unique aesthetics of a trend that rejected the cold aesthetics of the industrialization going on at the time.
“Land Art” by Lizzo takes its name from an artistic movement in which nature is everything. This avant-garde trend is based on the concept that nature does not inspire the work, but rather it is part thereof. In land art, nature’s elements are what form the artistic expression itself. In this sense, the textures and colors combined with wool and fabrics with subtle shine generate perfect cohesion, producing essential fabrics where nature is part of all the models in the collection.
Damero, Gambito, and Pomar are the three fabrics for the 100% linen curtains found in the “Damero” collection, the latest textile concept from Equipo DRT designed by Cuatro Cuatros. Inspired by proto-rationalist geometrization and the final stage of Art Nouveau (early twentieth century), it is based on the simplification and geometrization of decorative elements. In this sense, the collection constitutes an innovation in textiles by combining a natural fiber—linen—with geometrization.
Ancestral cultures and techniques
Fabrics and prints can use their designs to transport us to unique places with ancestral cultures and techniques.
Coordonné, under the guidance of Ybarra Serret (Coqui Ybarra), reveals the “Maasai” collection with a wide variety of fabrics for drapes, curtains, and upholstery. All are inspired by East Africa and the Maasai people, embodying their nomadic lifestyle surrounded by landscapes in cheerful fabrics of earthy and organic tones and with geometric and contemporary prints characteristic of this African culture.
Gastón y Daniela launches “Maiorca,” its new collection inspired by the Mallorcan ikats, better known as Robles de Llengües because of the flames, or tongues of fire, that their designs represent. These Mallorcan geometric prints maintain the age-old dyeing technique, and, thanks to the use of the most emblematic colors of Mallorca, they effortlessly transport you to the island.
The “Gaula” collection by Pepe Peñalver is inspired by the colors, craftsmanship, and nature of the island of Madeira. Painted silks, wicker, and ceramics from the Portuguese archipelago intermingle with current trends to create a colorful geometric and botanical prints collection.
James Malone and the characteristic prints of his latest collections, “Berjalin,” and “Caspian” are also inspired by ancient Ikat fabrics.
KA international brings us the “Roots” collection, which takes its inspiration from its stores and all the cities where they are located. The collection has a wide variety of color palettes and characteristic prints that identify the city behind their inspiration, combining different floral, geometric, ethnic, and plain motifs and prints to perfection.
Exclusive materials that create unique textures
Setting aside inspiration, materials and textures are a differential aspect in many textile creations.Companies and designers resort to deeply entrenched research, weft, and warp techniques to achieve distinctive fibers and weaving patterns that make fabrics more resistant and unique.
“Nuance” by Eli Gutiérrez is Gancedo’s first collection produced especially for the outdoors. This collection accentuates several characteristics of color, weft, and warp that make it a unique collection. While it has only eight Taslan colors and eleven chenille colors, thanks to a sublime interweaving of texture and color, these limited colors and textures change depending on the light or how you look at it.
Agora® Fabrics by Tuvatextil uses 100% mass-dyed acrylic fiber across its collections.
