We reveal the latest rug ideas from Gan, nanimarquina, Naturtex, Now Carpets and Vondom for this year.
The Gan brand, which is part of the Gandía Blasco Group, has launched five new collections this year: MANGAS OUTDOOR, GIRO, CITRUS, SALINE, CHIMOS and SUNSET.
MANGAS OUTDOOR is the outdoor version of the iconic "Mangas Original" and "Mangas Space" series designed by Patricia Urquiola. The new hand-tufted rugs reflect the same volume, texture and comfort as these series, but stand out for the use of materials specially designed for outdoor environments (100% recycled PET); GIRO rugs with spirographic curves, created by MUT design, are hand made with virgin wool using the hand-tufting technique, and are based on a succession of mathematical curves. Thanks to a slight variation in their shapes, generate the optical illusion of a tube rolled up on itself; the collection of three CITRUS rugs, made of 100% recycled PET, are designed by Jorge Garaje; the SALINE collection, created by Made Studio, is available in four options that display different earth and mineral tones and are all made of 100% recycled PET fibers, which are dyed, spun and braided by hand. José A. Gandía-Blasco's CHIMOS rug takes its name from those candies with holes that were so very popular in the eighties, and Alejandra Gandía-Blasco Lloret's SUNSET is hand-knotted in sunset colors.
Meanwhile, nanimarquina presented the DOBLECARA, HAZE, and OBLIQUE rug collections, and the IMPROVISACIÓN tapestry.
DOBLECARA is the result of a new collaboration based on the geometry and subtlety of movement by Ronan Bouroullec. It is made with hand-spun Afghan wool, and for the first time the technique has combined the ancestral kilim and its echoes of the past with the hand-knotted technique to create the lines, which gives the rug great durability and rhythm. HAZE is inspired by the harmony of colors drawn from nature. Created by Begum Cana Özgur, it is woven with 50% New Zealand and 50% Italian wool, a noble, warm, durable easy-care material. OBLIQUE is a collection designed by Matthew Hilton, based on the elegance of simplicity, with sober graphics and colors that bring us closer to the earth. And there’s also the tapestry IMPROVISACIÓN, designed by Gian Padilla.
Naturtex has launched the CAMINO and PANGEA collections designed by Jorge Herrera, and QUID created by Jaime Beriestáin. CAMINO is a rhythmic game between different modules divided by two bands that show us the way. Each module is composed of sisal and jute ropes with a cotton fiber core. In PANGEA, the large shapes subtly touch each other, creating a single piece. Each module is composed of sisal and jute ropes with a cotton fiber core. QUID are outdoor rugs inspired by hand woven natural fibers, materials that make them perfect for both public and private spaces.
NOW Carpets has launched the MAUI collection this year, designed by Ignasi Soler. The landscapes and beaches of the Hawaiian island are represented in the geometric shapes of these carpets that contrast with each other to highlight the diversity and texture of the natural world of the island, the softness of the sand on the beach against the roughness of the volcanic rock for example. The collection is made up of 12 designs with infinite possibilities for customization and is well suited to hospitality and contract projects.
Finally, the firm Vondom has created several outdoor rugs using recycled plastic that have UV protection and are resistant to water and high temperatures. Plastic fibers recovered from the oceans have been used in these carpets. More than 130 plastic bottles per square meter of rug are given a new lease of life; this the Spanish brand's grain of sand to help the marine ecosystem and the environment.
