On the night of December 1, the prestigious North American magazine Interior Design presented the Best of Year awards 2016 at a busy ceremony held at the iconic IAC building, designed by Frank Gehry which was attended both by the nominated companies and by the US’s design and architecture elite.
A total of 26 Spanish pieces by 17 Spanish companies were nominated in the products category. And of these, eight firms scooped awards. What’s more, two high-profile Spanish design studios received prizes in the projects category. We at Interiors from Spain are very pleased for all those nominated and award-winning Spanish businesses and designers. Congratulations!
As for furniture, the Reverse Lounge meeting table created by Piergiorgio Cazzaniga for Andreu World triumphed in the Contract/ Side Tables category. And the following chairs won prizes: the Twins armchair collection by Mut Design for Expormim in the category Residential/ Accent and the swivel armchair Tortuga by design studio Nadadora for Sancal in the section Residential/ Lounge.
Lighting-wise, the following won prizes: the Ballet pendant light by Héctor Serrano for the company Arturo Álvarez in the Chandelier (Multiple Bulbs) category, the Flamingo light, created by Antoni Arola for Vibia in the Floor Light section and the Concentric light by Rob Zinn for Marset in the Sconce section.
The Mix & Match collection by Flavia del Pra for Gan won an award in the Accessories category. This innovative set of copper and ceramic pieces can be used as platters, side tables to serve and present food or as plinths to display an artwork or beautiful plant. You’ll find a use for each of these modern and cheerful-looking objects in your imagination. And the material Dekton Trilium, manufactured by Cosentino, won an award in the category Materials, Treatments and Surfaces (Including Panelling).
What’s more, in the section Projects, Patricia Urquiola received a prize in the Hospitality — Hotel Resort category for the the interior of the hotel Il Sereno Lago de Como in Italy, while Moneo Brock won a prize for the best project in the Institutional category for the parish church of Pueblo Serena in Monterrey, Mexico, where the studio not only created the interior integrated into the church’s architecture but also the space’s furniture. Another nominated Spanish interior design company was Tarruella Trenchs, nominated in the Casual Dining category for its project En Tránsito and in the Fine Dining category for the project La Bien Aparecida. Meanwhile, the studio Rai Pinto, in collaboration with Dani Rubio Arauna, won prizes for the project Consulta Dental Vela Lasagabaster in the Branding and Graphic Design and Small Healthcare categories.
