Every year in December we look forward to meeting the winners of the prestigious international "Best of Year (BoY)" awards. These awards are given by the American magazine Interior Design and in recent years, they have been presented at a glamorous gala held at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York, attended by more than 1,000 American architects and designers.
This year due to the pandemic, they have been announced in a virtual ceremony broadcast on DesignTV by SANDOW, during the week of December 7-10. Winners in the “Student Design” section were announced on December 7, and this year's winners and nominees in the “Product” section, sponsored by Interiors from Spain, were presented on December 8.
In this 15th edition in the product "Product” section, there was a total of 23 design pieces of furniture, lighting, rugs and kitchen "made in Spain," nominated among 15 Spanish companies. And of them, 7 pieces from 6 Spanish companies won a prize. In addition, a Spanish design student was awarded in the "Student Design" section.
In the product section, the furniture company Andreu World was awarded two prizes: in the "Contract sofa" category for the GIRO SOFT sofa designed by Alfredo Häberli and in "Environmental impact" for the 100% recycled plastics "PURE ECO." In this same section, these armchairs were also awarded: REMNANT created by Note Design Studio for Sancal in the "Residential lounge seating" category and ARMADILLO, devised by Mut Design for Expormim in the "residential accent chairs” category. And in the "Outdoor collection" category, the award went to the ISLA sofas, armchairs and tables collection, designed by Sebastian Herkner for Gan .
Furthermore, two Spanish luminaries won the product awards: the "STRUCTURAL" luminaire created by Arik Levi for Vibia won in the "Architectural lighting" category and the DUNE ceiling lamp designed by Mayice Studio for LZF Lamps, a company awarded the Spanish National Design Award in 2020, won the "Pendant fixtures" category.
Likewise, Celia Martín Torre, student of Madrid's ESNE, University School of Design, Innovation and Technology, won the award in the "Student design" section for her KALON helmet project. We from ICEX and Interior from Spain congratulate all the winners and nominees.
