Spanish company Andreu World has put a combination of contemporary design and sustainability at the core of its business and creative offers. Following these guiding principles, the company will furnish the Spanish Pavilion at Expo Dubai 2020, a project that will feature more than 300 pieces made from 100% FSC® certified wood from reforested woodlands and with a traceable chain of custody, from tree to final product.
The seats, tables and furnishing accessories selected for the Pavilion have been developed "from circular, durable, long-lasting and environmentally friendly materials that minimize our ecological footprint" and their design bears the signature of prestigious figures such as Patricia Urquiola, Jasper Morrison, Alfredo Häberli, Benjamin Hubert, Pearson LLoyd, Piergiorgio Cazzaniga and Lievore Altherr Molina.
"Combining expertise and technology, we have developed craftsmanship in complete harmony with the environment and bringing all this expertise to a forum such as the Expo highlights the value of our products on an international level," Andreu World explains.
The Spain Pavilion, located in the Expo's Sustainability area, will be structured as a space to showcase the talent, innovation and energy of our country, along with the strength of our culture, tradition and quality of life as sustainable elements for future generations. This proposal will take the form of a spectacular building, which stands out thanks to its iconic strength, its circular economy credentials and a design based on the idea of complete recycling of materials, whose architectural conception was entrusted to the Amann-Cánovas-Maruri studio.
A new production center
With the aim of doubling its current production capacity, Andreu World is undertaking the construction of a new factory in Valencia, which will begin operations next September. This center, which represents a firm commitment to Industry 4.0, digitization and sustainability, will feature 155,000m2 of industrial space and 70,000m2 of built space.
Following the guidelines of the company's Integral Sustainability Plan, and prioritizing respect for the environment, the facilities will be equipped with the latest technology to achieve sustainable energy consumption and efficient use of resources. The brand aims for all its designs to be integrated into the circular economy by 2030, and in order to achieve this it has increased its investment in R&D&I and strengthened the development of its own materials and fabrics, which it has incorporated into its new collections for 2021.
These materials, which include 100% recycled Pure ECO® plastics, a novel polymer of natural origin, and the Circular ONE® fabric, obtained from yarn made from recycled PET bottles and textile waste, were the stars of the Andreu World exhibition at the Madrid Design Festival 2021 in February. This showcase was also chosen to present their Nuez Lounge BIO® armchair, designed by Patricia Urquiola and made entirely from 100% biodegradable materials. The construction also uses no glues, so it can be easily disassembled and repaired or reupholstered to extend its life. The item is available in a range of four colors - sand, basalt gray, terracotta brown and black - an upgrade from the traditional gray that has characterized recyclable plastics until now. The central base, made of ash wood, adds a natural touch and is 100% FSC®.
