Tomás Alonso was born in Vigo in 1974. At the age of nineteen, he left his home town to move to the USA in order to study industrial design. At the same time, he also worked for an Italian car tyre design company. He lived in Italy and Australia before settling in London, where he did a Masters at the Royal College of Art, graduating in 2006. He currently forms part of the Okay studio, which consists of a team of six designers of six different nationalities. The range and quality of his work has meant that Okay studio has received ample coverage in specialist design magazines such as Wallpaper or World of Interiors. Tomás Alonso, as well as producing his own personal work, also works for the architect Nigel Coates, who specialises in designer furniture produced in Italy. His designs are humanist in nature, and involve simple objects. His work is characterised by its functionality, as well as the romanticism of his pieces.
